Unrefined salt or table salt?
What is the difference between Unrefined Salt and Table Salt?
Salt in its natural form is referred to as Unrefined Salt and contains over 84 minerals and elements —all the natural elements necessary for life. This is contrasted with Table Salt which contains only two major items, namely sodium and chloride.
What is Table salt?
Most Table Salt is harvested mechanically from salt mines. Chemicals are used to remove all minerals and elements from the salt leaving behind sodium and chloride. The salt is bleached to obtain the uniform white appearance and the moisture is then evaporated under high compression and heat. Artificial chemicals such as Ferrocyanide, Aluminum Silicate and Ammonium Citrate are added to ensure anti-clumping.
Why is salt refined?
A product which pours easily and looks clinically white is more easily saleable commercially and is a better option for merchandisers.
What is Unrefined Salt?
All salt originally comes from the sea and depending on the location there are around 84 minerals and trace elements in Unrefined Salt. A few of the many locations include Pakistan (Himalayan Salt), South Africa (Khoisan Salt) and France (Celtic Sea Salt). Unrefined Salt is mined from its origin and does not undergo any transformation.
How does salt affect pH?
The pH of the body is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of the body. In an acidic body, the pH is lowered, while in an alkaline body, the pH is elevated.
When the pH of the body becomes either too acidic or too alkaline, normal physiologic functions decline. The organs of the body (kidneys, liver, brain, etc.,) do not function efficiently unless the pH of the body is 7. Immune system cells are unable to protect us efficiently when the pH is imbalanced.
An acidic pH has been associated with many chronic illnesses, like arthritis and candida.
Lacking the buffering effect of the natural minerals, Table Salt is an acidifying substance for the body. On the other hand, Unrefined Salt helps to maintain a more neutral pH and can actually help elevate an acidic pH.
Unrefined Salt vs Table Salt
Unrefined Salt is packed with essential minerals and supplies the body with a proper balance of sodium and chloride with over 84 trace minerals. Without the balancing effect of the trace minerals, Table Salt provides the body with too much sodium. Sodium was meant to be ingested with its complement of trace minerals. Some of the consequences of the ingestion of large amounts of Table Salt are mineral deficiencies and a lowered pH.
In conclusion
Unrefined Salt is an isotonic solution, which means it contains the same salts and minerals our bodies do, in equal concentrations. For this reason, it does not irritate the mucous membranes and is perfectly in balance with our bodies.
Natural, Unrefined Salt has many benefits, a few of which include:
- Prevents dehydration and balances fluids
- Promotes brain, muscle and nervous systems functions
- Supports digestion
- Stimulates saliva production
- Helps nutrient absorption
- Regulates pH
- Maintains electrolytes balance
- Strengthens the immune system
All Olgani products contain Unrefined Salt.
Please note the following:
For persons on a strictly no sodium diet we advise you to consult a medical professional before investing in our products as there is a minimal buccal and sublingual absorption of sodium in the mouths.
